New to NVC?

Whether conversing with friends, family, spouses, teachers, bosses or employees, the methods in which we’ve learned to communicate often fail us. There is much misspoken and misunderstood, and all parties deal with frustration and confusion as a result. NVC remedies this by teaching self-awareness, self-expression, effective listening and collaboration.

 

PRACTICE what you’ve learned

“Nonviolent Communication” (aka Compassionate Communication) sounds nice on paper, but how applicable is it really to life? The phrasing can sound clunky, so how can it possibly be integrated in a natural way? This video runs through a number of examples in order to give us practice looking at the world through an NVC lens.

All too often communication goes wrong. Oh so wrong! You express something seemingly benign and the other person reacts offended. You ask for something to get done and it never happens. Examples are infinite.

Communicating with oneself is a surprising but vital part of interpersonal communication. If we can identify what is alive for us as well as the source of these thoughts and feelings, we’re laying the foundation for a fruitful interaction. If we can learn self-empathy we’ll be able to rely less on others. In practicing self-reflection we will become more effective in how we write to and speak with others.

Communication is invaluable. How we speak with others and how we speak to ourselves impacts us daily! Imagine feeling more confident presenting your ideas, imagine better hearing what others have to say, imagine becoming more mindful and empowered when in comes to your own thoughts. If we can master communication, what might happen? Interpersonal relationships would blossom, personal development would accelerate and we’d reduce the amount of stress in our lives.
